(Fredericton, NB) – The Fredericton Chamber of Commerce and Startup Fredericton are pleased to announce a new strategic partnership. The cooperative alliance will leverage the strengths of both organizations to provide additional resources and connections for Fredericton’s burgeoning startup community.
Startup Fredericton is a grassroots entrepreneur-driven movement, bringing together entrepreneurs and community stakeholders. Its mission is to connect people who provide support to one another through both success and failure, as they create fantastic new companies in Fredericton. Startup Fredericton is made up of entrepreneurs, technologists, designers and intrapreneurs who work for other organizations.
“Startup Fredericton is very excited to be collaborating with the Fredericton chamber as part of nurturing the startup community in our city,” said Rivers Corbett, founding entrepreneur of Startup Fredericton. “Given the chamber's strength as the voice of business in Fredericton it was an obvious alignment between our two organizations to support the startup ecosystem in Fredericton.”
With the inclusion of Startup Fredericton into its membership offerings, the Fredericton chamber can more effectively work with the startup community towards continuing to position the community in achieving one of the goals of the City of Fredericton’s Vision 2020 plan, which is to be the startup capital of Atlantic Canada.
“As with all of its members, the Fredericton chamber is eager to help facilitate the success of Startup Fredericton and all of its associated businesses,” stated Krista Ross, Fredericton chamber CEO. “The chamber is in a prime position to not only provide member services to the startup community, but as both a key stakeholder in the Vision 2020 process and the voice of business in the community for nearly 140 years, to act as a conduit between fledgling businesses and more established, experienced organizations and business people.”
Through this partnership, the Fredericton chamber hopes to promote the value of the startup entrepreneur community to the sustainability and growth of the fabric of the entire business community. The chamber also strongly believes that a strong startup business community embraces all types of business ideas and aspirations – traditional and non-traditional, online and offline.
“The Fredericton chamber is very fortunate to have a wide breadth of businesses amongst its membership – from the most tradition industries to the ultra-modern,” continued Ross. “We think this variety of experience can be a great asset to the startup community. The perception is that startups are predominantly in the information and communication technology sector, but in reality there are new businesses constantly being created in all sectors.”
With many chamber members being driving forces behind Startup Fredericton, there was a strong connection between the groups previously, which has now been more formalized.
With more than 900 members, the Fredericton Chamber of Commerce is one of Atlantic Canada’s largest chambers of commerce. A dynamic business organization, the Fredericton Chamber of Commerce is actively engaged in policy development that affects the competitiveness of our members and of the Canadian business environment.
