(Fredericton, NB) – The Fredericton Chamber of Commerce is pleased with the newly announced gigabit peering arrangement between the GoFred Network and F6 Network enhancing the city’s place as the province’s information and communications technology hub.

“Enhancing knowledgebased industry infrastructure is a critical component of growing the local and regional economy,” said Joseph O’Donnell, Fredericton chamber president. “As strong supporters of the City’s Vision 2020 plan, we see this as another step to facilitating the achievement of those goals.

The announcement has been 15 years in the making, with the City developing its fibre network in 1999 and the first of its kind Fred EZone a couple of years later.

“We have steadily been moving in the right direction and this announcement demonstrates the kind of forwardthinking and leadership that we have come to expect in our community, added O’Donnell”

“As an advocate for business and our community, as well as a GoFred Network customer, we are very happy with the peering announcement today,” said Krista Ross, Chamber CEO. “Particularly in conjunction with GoFred Network’s reduced rates for commercial customers, the work being done by our postsecondary institutions and other stakeholders, Fredericton is now certainly a global player in the ICT industry.”

“In addition to being a great place to live and raise a family, we have to give companies and their employees concrete business reasons to set up in the city and province this partnership meets that benchmark,” added Ross. “Not only is Fredericton wellestablished as the province’s centre for the knowledgeindustry, but fast, affordable internet access is very appealing to most types of businesses.”

The chamber encourages the City to continue implementing its Vision 2020 plan and continue to ensure that Fredericton has the capacity to compete in the ICT sector on a global scale. In such a dynamic industry, if we aren’t moving forward, we are likely being surpassed.

With more than 900 members, the Fredericton Chamber of Commerce is New Brunswick’s largest chamber of commerce. A dynamic business organization, the Fredericton Chamber of Commerce is actively engaged in policy development that affects the competitiveness of our members and of the Canadian business environment.
