COMMITTEES

The Fredericton Chamber of Commerce has several committees that do a variety of tasks, from awards nominations to forming the policies of the Chamber and liaising with the three levels of government on behalf of the Chamber's members. A member of the Board of Directors of the Chamber traditionally chairs each committee and the committee membership is made up of volunteers from member businesses. The committees of the Chamber are listed below, along with a description of the work each does. If you are interested in being involved with one or more of these committees or require further information on a committee, please do not hesitate to contact the Chamber office at 458-8006.

Executive Committee
The Executive Committee shall exercise such powers as are delegated to it by the Board. It is understood that the First Vice President and Second Vice President will be in succession for the Office of the President.

Economic Development Committee
This group works closely with economic development and community partners like Enterprise Fredericton, the city of Fredericton, the Knowledge Park, and the Multicultural Association of Fredericton to define the economic priorities for the business community. committee members will develop strategies to increase economic development in the city and throughout the province, meet with key partners, and respond to business-related community events and initiatives. This committee meets on a monthly basis at the Chamber office.

Government Affairs Committee
We have merged the Chamber’s Federal/Provincial Government Affairs committee with the Municipal Government Affairs committee. This newly formed group will focus on issues of interest to the business community, both locally and across the province. Participants will respond to government announcements and initiatives, help develop and update Chamber policy, recommend policy to the municipal, provincial, and federal governments, and prepare briefs.

President's Committee on Physician Recruitment
The President's Committee on Physician Recruitment works closely with staff at the Horizon Health Network to assist with existing recruitment and retention efforts. initiatives include hosting welcome receptions for new residents in the Family Medicine Teaching Unit at the DEC; surveying residents to determine what the community can do to encourage them to practice in Fredericton, and working with government officials to make the city a more attractive place to practice medicine. This committee meets on a monthly basis at the Chamber office.

Membership Committee
This group is tasked with the responsibility of supporting the Director of Membership and Marketing in the execution of the Chamber’s membership recruitment and retention strategies. In collaboration with the Director of Membership and Marketing, this committee will focus on recruitment, retention, benefits, events and marketing.

Business Excellence Awards Selection Committee
After all nominations are put forward, the selection committee meets to look at the nominations. Each person is given a background of each company and are asked to do an onsite interview with three of the finalists in each category. After all interviews are completed, the selection committee meets to determine the recipients in each category. This committee meets usually two to three times during the fall.

Distinguished Citizen Awards Selection Committee
After all nominations are received, the committee meets to look at the nominations brought forward and chooses the three recipients.
