Leigh began his financial career as an auditor for Revenue Canada before moving to banking with CIBC in Halifax and Toronto; and BMO Bank of Montreal in Newfoundland and Labrador. He is currently Fredericton Manager for BMO Bank of Montreal. Leigh holds Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Science degrees from Dalhousie University, is a designated Personal Financial Planner PFP, and is an AICB Associate of the Institute of Canadian Bankers.

Leigh is a member of the Fredericton North Rotary Club, sits on the Board of Fredericton Residential Youth Services, is an advisor for Credit Counselling Services of Canada, and has been involved with Junior Achievement for the past 10 years.
