(Fredericton, NB) – The Fredericton Chamber of Commerce held its 2012-13 annual general meeting this morning at the Delta Fredericton. Fredericton mayor Brad Woodside was in attendance to formally swear in new members of the chamber board of directors and 2013-14 president, Chris Johnston of Atlantic Medical Imaging Services. Johnston takes over from Janice Corey, who moves into the role of past president.
Johnston’s opening address focused on the spirit of volunteerism at the chamber, stating in part:
“[Through my time on the chamber board of directors] it has become very clear to me that the ongoing success of the Fredericton Chamber of Commerce is because of you. You the member business, you the committee volunteer, you the board member, you the staff member, and you the partner. Your work ethic, your support for the chamber’s efforts, your pride in this great city and your passion to continue to make it an even better place to live and do business is what makes the difference.”
Mayor Woodside also emphasized the importance of volunteers stating, “I congratulate the new president and board of directors that I had the privilege of swearing in today. The award winning Fredericton Chamber of Commerce is well served by its staff and volunteers that give so much to make our community the best that it can be.”
Johnston concluded by encouraging all chamber members and partners to become involved in any capacity that they are able:
“We have some great people assembled around the chamber’s efforts, but we are always looking for more input and new ideas. If you currently are not involved in committees or other chamber activities, I would ask you to consider putting your ideas and experience to work as part of a chamber committee or other volunteer opportunity.”
Chamber presidents serve a one-year term, while board members typically serve for two years.
With more than 950 members, the Fredericton Chamber of Commerce is one of Atlantic Canada’s largest chambers of commerce.
