(Fredericton, NB) – The Fredericton Chamber of Commerce presented a cheque for $2,300.00 to Jobs Unlimited on 13 September 2013. This amount represents proceeds from "putting pandemonium" and silent auction fundraisers at the chamber's 24th annual golf tournament on 29 August 2013.
Jobs Unlimited is an employment agency for men and women with an employment barrier. Its roots date back to the Fredericton Training Centre in the 1970s, which provided vocational opportunities for a small number of individuals with limited interaction in the larger community and no paid employment. Today, over 200 participants work in laboratories, retail outlets, call centres, warehouses, the hospitality industry, the manufacturing industry, and the printing industry amongst others. These settings include government departments, the private sector and the university community.
"Many people are surprised to learn that the chamber has nearly 100 members who are community agencies and not-for-profit groups," stated Krista Ross, CEO of the Fredericton Chamber of Commerce. "These groups make up more than 10% of our entire membership and their employees and volunteers often play an active role in the chamber through joining our board of directors and committees, as well as attending our many events."
"Jobs Unlimited is not only an active chamber member, but also a vital part of our community as a whole," continued Ross. "Their contributions to the social and economic fabric of Fredericton can't really be measured effectively, but at the same time it is very easy to see the impact."
