Fredericton Chamber and Fredericton North Rotary Co-hosting Luncheon with Guest Speaker Steve Morck of TransCanada
10 March 2014
For Immediate Release
(Fredericton, NB) – The Fredericton Chamber of Commerce and Fredericton North Rotary Club are co-hosting a luncheon on 17 March 2014 featuring Steve Morck, TransCanada’s environmental lead in New Brunswick for the Energy East pipeline project.
Speaking at the Fredericton Inn, Mr. Morck, whose presentation is titled “Energy East Pipeline - What, Why and How?” will discuss plans to proceed with the $12 billion pipeline project from Alberta to New Brunswick. The speech will address environmental and safety considerations of the pipeline as well as its potential benefits and timelines for the various phases.
The Fredericton chamber membership overwhelmingly supports the construction of the pipeline. In the chamber’s 2013 annual survey, 72.5% of respondents indicated support, while just 9.5% did not. 18% did not have an opinion at that time.
“The Energy East pipeline has obviously been a big part of the economic development discussion in New Brunswick over the past year,” said Krista Ross, chamber CEO. “As the project continues to move forward, we are pleased to be able to provide a forum for our members and the community at large to hear from a person knowledgeable about many aspects of the pipeline.”
This will be the fifth luncheon co-hosted by the chamber and the Rotary Clubs of Fredericton in the past year.
“The partnership with the Rotary clubs has been great for the chamber membership,” stated Chris Johnston, chamber president. “They are a great group to work with and jointly we have been able to bring in some very interesting speakers that are relevant to both organizations. I am looking forward to Mr. Morck’s presentation as the pipeline has been a topic of conversation in boardrooms and living rooms for the past year.”
