Fredericton Chamber of Commerce Seeking Applications for Scholarship

15 April 2014
For Immediate Release

(Fredericton, NB) – The Fredericton Chamber of Commerce is calling for applications for its recently established post-secondary scholarship.

Administered by the Fredericton Community Foundation, a one-time, non-renewable scholarship in the amount of $1000 will be awarded each year to an “…employee of a member in good standing of the Fredericton Chamber of Commerce, OR be the child, spouse or partner of a member or their employee.” The deadline to apply will be the last Friday in May of each year at 4:00 pm. Application forms and further instructions can be found at www.frederictonchamber.ca or www.fredfdn.ca.

“Our board of directors is very pleased to be able to offer this scholarship on an annual basis to a deserving person in the community,” stated Chris Johnston, chamber president. “We see the chamber as not only representing our members and local business, but also a community-minded organization that is part of the fabric of Fredericton, as evidenced by celebrating our 140th anniversary in 2014.”

The scholarship will be awarded based a number of factors including educational performance, work experience, community involvement, and extra-curricular activities.

“The selection committee for 2014 will be made up of six chamber past presidents and myself as an ex-officio member,” said Krista Ross, chamber CEO. “We are very fortunate as an organization and city that our volunteers are willing to continue to share their time and experience for the betterment of our community.”

“As the stated criteria indicate, we will be looking for a well-rounded, community-focused individual. Fredericton has an abundance of people who fit that description, so I’m sure the selection process will be quite challenging,” Ross added. “We are also grateful to have a group like the Fredericton Community Foundation with the expertise to manage the fund and process for us amongst all of the other great work that they do.

The recipient of the scholarship will be formally recognized at a subsequent chamber event.

With more than 900 members, the Fredericton Chamber of Commerce is one of Atlantic Canada’s largest chambers of commerce. A dynamic business organization, the Fredericton Chamber of Commerce is actively engaged in policy development that affects the competitiveness of our members and of the Canadian business environment.
