Capital City Summer Sights

If the last two years have taught us anything, it’s to appreciate the wonders found right outside our front door.

New Brunswick’s capital city has so much to explore – an inspiring blend of culture, nature, history, spanning trails, city sidewalks and outdoor public spaces. Not to mention our culinary gems, festivals and craft brew scene. Read on to get inspired by all the wonders you can explore in Fredericton is summer!

Natural Playground

Known as one of the city’s crown jewels, Fredericton is blessed with a sprawling 120 km trail system – a network that meanders along the beautiful Saint John River. No matter how you’re hitting the trails – there’s plenty of opportunities for photo ops (the walking bridge at sunset makes for a great shot!). Be sure to pick up a copy of the Fredericton Trail Guide at our Visitor Information Centre and find your own path.

Want to get up close and personal with the Saint John River? Rent a canoe, kayak or paddleboard from Second Nature Outdoors. Or, experience Atlantic Canada’s only houseboat rentals with Lakeway Houseboats.

Sip the City

Take on the Fredericton Taproom Trail! Explore 10 local taprooms throughout the city and get your #FredTapTrail passport stamped at each stop to win free swag. Boasting 25+ local craft producers, there’s a good reason that Fredericton has been tagged Atlantic Canada’s Craft Brewing Capital! Don’t forget to snap some pics and share your #FredTapTrail brews and patio views with us on social!

Festivals, Events & Concerts Oh My!

We know everyone is excited to see some of our favourite festivals and events return in 2022. Harvest Music Festival, Sweltering Songs, Living Roots Music Festival, Pride Festival, Fredericton Craft Beer Festival, and the St. Mary’s Pow-wow, just to name a few and our FREE outdoor Summer Concert Series! This year we are also the host city for the East Coast Music Awards! Check our calendar of events for more information.

Markets

Fredericton is New Brunswick’s Market City. With six weekly markets; we‘re sure there’s something for everyone. It’s back! Starting June 9 until September 8, Carleton Street will come alive with the Garrison Night Market! But that is just the beginning of Fredericton’s market offerings. A trip to Fredericton isn’t complete without sampling the wide array of internationally inspired cuisine and comfort food with a twist at the Cultural Market or Food Market at the Ex. You can experience that and more at both the Fredericton Boyce Farmers’ Market and Northside Creators Market, where you will find delicious food, fresh local produce, and hand-crafted wares. The Eco Market at The Ville is the place to go if you’re looking to find a selection of environmentally conscious arts, crafts, fresh produce, and no plastic products.

Art is at the Heart

Art is the heartbeat of our capital city and there are many galleries, artisan shops, public art pieces and murals to explore. This summer the Beaverbrook Art Gallery will re-open after their recent expansion, with NEW exhibitions. Check out their new website for more information on exhibitions and special events.

Step Back in Time

Take a few steps back in time and make some history of your own at Kings Landing! Only 20 minutes from Fredericton, Kings Landing is a living history museum depicting 19th century rural life.  Situated on 300 acres, you can learn about life as it was through the costumed villagers as they work and play.  There are about 90,000 artifacts – one of the largest collections in Atlantic Canada!

Narrowing down fun experiences in Fredericton to only a few highlights was a tough job! Whether you’re looking to spend a weekend having fun with the family, exploring with your best pal or going on a special getaway for two – don’t forget to check out our curated 2-night Stay & Play Packages, a great way to make the most of your visit. Not only does each package come with a BONUS $50, but they also feature fantastic perks like passes to top attractions, extra cash for shopping, dining and MORE!
