The RAP-Life Skills Support Worker will work as part of the Adult Settlement Team and specifically with the Resettlement Assistance Program (RAP). They will welcome Government Assisted Refugee (GAR) arrivals at the Fredericton airport and assist with immediate and short term needs of new arrivals, including interpretation and transportation to temporary accommodation. The RAP-Life Skills Support Worker will deliver workshops and information sessions to newcomers to help them settle and adapt easily into their new community.


Key Duties and responsibilities include:
• Support newcomers in planning their short and long-term settlement goals in Canada
• Facilitate settlement information and orientation sessions for newcomers on settlement topics such as banking, housing, community connections, etc.;
• Deliver life skills training tailored to each client in a safe and welcoming atmosphere
• Facilitate information, guidance and training about the concept of personal health, hygiene, sanitation and cultural awareness in the new country;
• Ensure clients are familiar with & able to access community services and resources such as emergency services, shopping, healthcare, banking, schooling, transportation system, etc. Assist them in making and keeping appointments;
• Maintain accurate records on completed activities and submit monthly and quarterly reports in accordance with deadlines and program requirements;
• Attend meetings and professional development workshops to ensure that skills and knowledge are kept up to date;
• Perform other duties as needed to support the smooth operation of the Adult Settlement Team.
Requirements:

Education:
• Relevant post-secondary education

Experience with:
• Supporting immigrants and refugees in the community
• Coaching techniques and ability to clearly explain and model instructions to others
• Outreach, community development and marketing of program and services
• Crisis intervention and Non-violent Crisis Intervention certificate will be considered an asset

Knowledge:
• Knowledge of MCAF programs and services and other community organizations that might be of interest to the newcomer families

Skills:
• Excellent writing, speaking, and listening skills – Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate high bilingual capabilities in English & Arabic
• Excellent interpersonal, cross-cultural, written and verbal communication skills
• Effective multitasking, priority setting and organization skills
• Strong ability to work in team and independently
• Flexible, patient and interested in helping people learn new things
• Ability to work with people from the same region/country of origin, but who might have different cultural or religious backgrounds, including LGBTQ experiences
• Proficiency in the use of computers and various software applications

Terms of employment:
• Contract – renewable pending continuation of funding
• 37.5 hours per week; benefits
• Criminal Record Check Clearance with Vulnerable Sector
• Ability to work evenings and weekends on a regular basis
• Driver’s license (class 5) and clean driver abstract
