Re: Canada’s Business Registries Service

Dear Minister Wilson,

I am writing you today to request that the Province of New Brunswick join the federal-provincial open digital business registration service, “Canada’s Business Registries” that was officially launched on 29 June 2020.

The Multi-Jurisdictional Registry Access Service (MRAS) reduces red tape and internal trade barriers for companies by connecting business registries across the country. It enables businesses in Canada to register seamlessly in select provinces and territories without having to provide the same information to each jurisdiction. The official registries of Alberta, British Columbia, Corporations Canada, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, and Saskatchewan are already part of the initiative.

As you will note, only the territories and Atlantic provinces are not already signed on to the program. Interprovincial trade barriers have long been a source of frustration to the Canadian economy and as New Brunswick businesses continue to recover from the economic consequences of the pandemic, we must be part of solutions to mitigate these barriers, otherwise we risk being left further behind relative to the rest of the country.

Thank you for your attention to this matter and we look forward to New Brunswick joining the registry in short order.

Sincerely,

Krista Ross, CEO, Fredericton Chamber of Commerce
